Name of Business: EcoLogic Life
Owner name: Cynthia Grier
When was your business established?
What inspired you to start your business?
Ojai Valley Green Coalition had just formed showing a huge interest with the community in sustainable practices. With my background in selling eco-friendly building materials, I felt I could offer accessibility to products and information that the community needed but where not being offered in the vicinity. I have felt that I am on a mission or assignment to enable people to put what they value into practice, values that I hold in high regard myself — saving our own health and the health of the planet.
Who are your customers?
Many customers are local Ojai valley residents, mostly in the middle income bracket. Many are artists, humanitarians and environmentalists, but some are just the average homeowner with a conscience about what is happening to our health and the health of the planet. We also see customers from Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. Many people would rather drive into Ojai to shop at this type of business than to drive into Los Angeles.
What is the secret to your success?
Success comes naturally from doing what’s right. We sell only products that are good for the health of people and the planet. Patagonia is a perfect example of success coming from doing what is right.
What are your biggest challenges?
Being a very new business, the biggest challenge is trying to get the word out that we are here, and start bringing in the sales that will make some profit so we can stay around for the benefit of the community.
What’s new with you?
We are continually adding new products in our showroom.
What would you like our readers to know about your business?
We sell eco-friendly interior building products including architectural panels, cabinetmaking materials, carpets and area rugs, countertops, fabric, flooring, hardware, lighting, paints, stains and sealers, adhesives and caulks, sinks, tiles and wallcoverings.
What is your favorite thing about living and working in Ojai?
The beautiful, natural setting, the energy of the valley and its people, the sense of community, and the emphasis on the arts.
