  1.    Buy from a reputable supplier. “Work with professionals who share your values and have an expertise in green, including suppliers.  Greenwashing is becoming a significant issue, so expertise, experience and ethics are important.”
  2.    Look beyond price. “A product could be cheaper due to unfair labor practices.  Buy locally made materials, and think about ways to reuse and recycle.”
  3.    "Test products if you’re chemically sensitive.  Just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s nontoxic.  Products labeled low- or no-VOC aren’t completely free of all synthetic chemicals, and not all chemicals are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency.”  For more information visit www.epa.gov/iaq/ia-intro.html

EcoLogic Life began in 2007 when founder and manager Cynthia Grier made a trip to Ojai and Ventura County, CA and recognized the strong desire of the people to shift their lifestyle to a much more sustainable way of living. She set out with a mission...

to make eco-friendly building materials accessible, and to teach ways of creating beautiful, healthy, affordable environments that promote sustainability and can be a source of well being.

Cynthia Grier has been a proponent of environmental causes for many years, beginning with Environmental Studies courses in college. She received her degree in Interior Environmental Design and began her career as an Interior Designer. She then worked many years as a manufacturer's representative for a variety of building materials and finishes, assisting architects, designers and contractors with design and technical information. During that time, she built two new homes of her own with conventional building materials. She became very ill and it took a few years to determine that it was her homes, with their toxic finishes and materials, which were making her ill. By changing her environment and surrounding herself with natural and healthy alternatives, she has regained her health. 

Cynthia is a Build It Green Certified Green Building Professional, a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the Natural Building Network, and the Institute for Bau-Biologie and Ecology.  She is currently studying for her Certification as a Bau-Biologie (Building Biology) Practitioner.  And, she sits on the Ojai Valley Green Coalition - Building and Construction committee where she has helped to design and assemble a mock green home in both the Ojai Valley Museum and the Community Services of Ventura County Green Center.

Cynthia is currently active in remodeling projects for residential and commercial spaces, and also in researching, writing about and promoting ecohealthy building and sustainability commitments of ecotourisim resorts, destinations and other lodging and restaurants. Cynthia is passionate about sharing her knowledge of healthy, eco-friendly building.  She is available for speaking/teaching engagements, consultations on material selection & specification, space planning & design, and will compile written articles for any media.

 

Jon Cotham is a Certified Building Biologist (Bau-Biologie) Environmental Inspector and Building Contractor who has been creating healthy eco spaces for over 17 yrs.  He is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Institute for Bau-Biologie and Ecology.  Jon is the investigator who will sleuth out and locate the source of environmental toxins in your home or workplace, then consult with you on all the solutions to create a healthy space.  Jon combines extensive training with state of the art testing equipment to find the solution to create your healthy, beautiful home or workplace.  Each inspection includes a comprehensive written report with recommendations on how you can improve the health of your space and thereby the health of your family or employees.  Jon can then recommend appropriate remediation techniques, equipment and professionals.  Jon is also available for consultations on any new building or remodeling project.  His many years of experience and training in healthy, sustainable, and natural building techniques are hard to find in the average building consultant, inspector or project manager.  His expertise combines not only seeking out the problems but knowing how to successfully complete the solutions.

Bau-Biologie®, a philosophy that began in Germany, is a word used to describe a movement promoting the use of healthy building principles as a means to improve living and work spaces and the health of people who occupy them. Bau-Biologie® literally means, "Building Biology™." Cherice Keck is available to whip up the recipe for a wonderful kitchen design using our sustainable, healthy Cabinetry, Countertops, Tile and other finish materials.  Cherice spent 20+ years running her own catering business, as well as consulting with, and managing many restaurants.  Since 2003, when she completed design courses, she has been completed various design projects.  She has a commitment to the environment and a passion for green building and design. She brings this ethic into all aspects of her business. As a former chef and caterer, her experience lends itself to creative, thoughtful design and customer service. Through design solutions, she wants to create spaces that really work for the individual using materials and products that sustain a healthy home.
